Illusion of Juxtaposition

I, Cheng Khai Wen have come across a quite headache word today, Juxtaposition. Juxtaposition is a stimulation of creativity in problem solving from a two contrast pictures put on side by side and compare and relate each other. The most common word to show the meaning of juxtaposition is oxymoron.

Well, juxtaposition can also be says as the opposites placed next to each other so as to emphasize the contrast. In anime and films it is frequently used in this manner. It expresses to the audience the dichotomy of characters, situations, events and the like. Let's put it simple this way: two object that is totally unable to related are put together.

Hm...if you want me to show you a series that have juxtaposition, i would like to show the example in Air Gear, one of the famous sports animation or manga(comic) in japan. Air Gear is not as popular as Slam Dunk(Basketball) or Captain Tsubasa(Football) but is all about Roller-Skates.

Enemy/Friend- At the beginning of the anime, Minami Ikki which is the main character just have 2 friends, which is Kazu and Onigiri as his team-mates when wanted to form the team Kogarasumaru. So, at his way to find his new team-mates, he met up with Buccha and Agito which both are at Ikki's enemy team. After Ikki beat them in a match, both Buccha and Agito join force with Ikki as the main member of Team Kogarasumaru.

Dark/Light- This juxtaposition is hidden within the character Wanijima Akito/Wanijima Agito or most often called "Agito" by his friends. Agito have split personality which shows in the picture above. With the help of the eyepatch, Agito can switch his personality. Wanijima Akito is the angel side of the Wanijima while Wanijima Agito is the devil side of the Wanijima. Akito's characteristic is mostly kind and soft-hearten while Agito is aggressive and always being rude.

Attention/Ignore- Ikki(the one below) and Kazu(the one above) are both the main key characters at the recent chapters for Air Gear. But Ikki is the one always getting all the attention from others while Kazu is often being ignore and called as the shadow of Ikki. The truth is both Ikki and Kazu are best friends who have the strongest battle skill in the Team Kogarasumaru.

Betrayal/Friendship- Ikki and Sora are once teacher and student and most importantly Ikki and Sora are the same kind of person until Sora recognize Ikki as his younger brother. But in the recent chapter of Air Gear, Sora reveal that Ikki is just his tools to regain the most powerful Regalia(a skate part that represent the status as a King in Air Gear) and Sora tell Ikki that he will kill Ikki if Ikki is in his way to regain it and Ikki is no longer Sora's brother but Ikki still treat Sora as his brother until the newest chapter where Sora plan to kill Rika which is Sora's own girlfriend and also Ikki's step-sister to totally break Ikki's spirit to battle against Sora for the Regalia.

So, you have it. The two words that is unable to combine is shown inside Air Gear.

Illusion of Outside the Box

"Think outside the Box, Don't think inside the box." is a sentence that i first heard it at my form 1 studying time. Until i come to FCM, i still heard this sentence. Well, this sentence is like a motto for us, Design student or Designers in training.

Associate mind mapping can go as crazy as and as long as the main topic is still there. It helps in preventing us to generate stereotype ideas. For example, when you think of ant, small and strong because it able to carry something that is bigger then itself but it can also be fragile like a glass when a bigger force lies on it, it will be crash to death.

Using associate mind map, we can think of anything under or even out of the universe. There is no right or wrong idea but there is only good or bad suggestion idea. A good idea will always related to the main topic even but sometimes will be a crazy idea while the idea is considered bad when it is not relevant at all but sometimes will be logic.

Haizz....as i say at my last post...my scanner break down due to unknown reason so the usage of my creative mortar and pestle also unable to upload. What a misfortune I, Cheng Khai Wen having here. But don't worry, i will upload it ASAP. You can trust on me.....i suppose.

Illusion of Mind Map

I, Cheng Khai Wen have come across a subject called Mind Map. Mind Map can be the most troublesome process of all the designer having. This is because Mind Map will be the 1st steps of the starting which will kill or crack your brain cells.

Anyway, a Mind Map is a diagram used to represent words, ideas, tasks, or other items linked to and arranged around a central key word or idea. Mind Maps are used to generate, visualize,structure, and classify ideas, and as an aid in study, organization, problem solving, decision making, and writing.

According to Uncle Google, our left brain tend to think logically, while the right brain tend to think creatively.So, to generate a creative mind map, practise using our right brain, try not to provide facts that people already knows. But the problem here is our brain use to think the logic 1st rather then the creative.

That's why when we doing mind map, we tend to generate as many random words as possible but is based on the common sense. As a result the contents are often related to stereotyping.

That's why sometimes we need to think creatively without thinking logically to create something that is creative and people never do before.

The messed up illusion of novelty, creativity, innovation and invention

I, Cheng Khai Wen am studying creative studies in the class MLC 1013. Well, the lecturer teach us about novelty, creativity, innovation and invention. So, after class they want us to identify novelty, creativity, innovation and invention even more. So, here goes. The simply meaning of the four terms we learn.
Novelty
Fresh idea that has never been though by others before.

Creativity
The mean to create or generate new things.

Most of the time novelty comes before creativity. Novelty is most of the people forget about this process. We,humans always think of something epic and weird but when our brain transfer the idea to the "logic section" of the brain, we will start thinking "nah, this is impossible to archive". That's where the novelty STOPS. Once novelty STOPS, then creativity is UNABLE TO ARCHIVE. Like the quote "no pain, no gain", i change it to "no novelty, no creativity", so is easier to get the meaning.

Innovation
Difference new idea that can be judge as interesting or creative. There is no wrong nor right.

Invention
Use and combine existing idea to create something else that content values of appreciation. Innovation and invention actually have very very close relationship to each other. In fact, there just a thin line between this two terms because both are inter-related with the formation of concepts in reality. Invention use to be the one which create the creativity idea into reality then only innovation comes to the play which test out the creativity idea(mostly impossible to archive) in the real world and find out doesn't it works like what we imagine.

This is the end of my post. Sometimes we should stop thinking logic. Just try to do what we feel like doing. If you have the illusion of afraid to think. Well, i am here to break that illusion for you.

The illusion of Creativity

I, Cheng Khai Wen came in contact with a topic called creativity the moment I step foot into the class mlc 1013.

The lecturer say me n my class to find out the definition of creativity. In my mind, automatically the definition of creativity is to think of plus create some new ideas to solve problems or convince a message and communicate with others.

In this world, everything,everyone are creative. Remember once we are small, we use to play with the soft toys and we arrange it into a shape of something else. Well, that is creativity.

Too bad, the society now thinks that the creative people is bunch of weirdos. That's why
most of the people afraid to be different or think different from the others. Thus, the creative people often being treated in different status as other educations level people.If we never have creative people who prepared to be wrong and come out with something weird and original, our society will never improved in what it is today.

Does school kills creativity? Well, if you ask me. I will answer NO. School didn't kill the creativity of a person. The school is just a portal or a huge wall that the person who need to pass through. I agree on school often focus on studies more then the creative side of education. But if the person who is creative enough, he/she will think of something new like "how i make my assignment different from my school-mate", "what can i do to score high marks without studying" etc etc of weird question.

For me, school didn't kills the creativity of a person. The person himself/herself is the one who kills the creativity. That's my conclusion.

Here is another thing the lecturer was us to do. Creative Image of your friend – please scan and put it in the blog with descriptions, expressions, experiences, etc. Send this image to your friend. Use the creative image your friend has done of you as your avatar/photo of you in the blog.

This is a picture of Charlene. Well, to be honest, she is not as what i draw here. I draw her into a tall,long hair,moe girl.(Kind of her dream height) Moe is a japanese word with the meaning of "cute". In real life, she is short in height but trying very hard to grow taller.
since i m kind of bored, i also draw myself out. As you can see, I am not as handsome and fit as what i have draw. It's just my dream to look like this.

Alright, that all for this post. Don't stop think creative !! continue to think of something weird !! If you keep on thinking of "I am not creative just because i don't have new/nice idea" then let me destroy that messed up illusion first !! Believe yourself that you are creative !!!
